Friday Flash

— filed under:

Dear Friends, Today’s Friday Flash includes a few new items and some very important reminders! Please remember that we started our summer schedule last week with one service only at 10.30 AM!

1.  SUMMER WORSHIP SERVICE SCHEDULE.   We are offering one Sunday service during July and August.  This service begins at 10:30 AM.  The summer services are blended in format, which includes contemporary music with band and also some traditional hymns with organ.  Following the services, there is a coffee fellowship hour – outside if weather permits.

2.  MEN'S BREAKFAST:   Awake, oh men!  It's time for the next men's breakfast!   The event will take place tomorrow, Saturday, July 10th, at 8:00 AM at the church.  Enjoy a great meal and the opportunity to network with other men.   Michael Gray will provide some challenging input on he topic, "Being Moderate in All Things".   If you have any questions, please send an eMail to Rudi.Demmler@t-online.de.

3.  CHILDREN'S CHURCH UPDATE:

After a short break, we will continue to offer Children's Church throughout the summer. We have already chosen themes and related activities, and we're counting on your continued support to keep the program running. There are still a few gaps in our summer schedule, both for teaching and for assisting. Our summer program is much less preparation-intensive, so if you've been thinking about volunteering, now is a great time to "test the waters." Please contact Ulrike Berlemann (ukoestlin@googlemail.com) if you're interested.

4.   20-CENTS A DAY TO HELP AN APC-MISSION PROJECT.

20-cents is a small coin.  You can lose it easily.  You cannot buy very much with it, maybe a bread-roll of poor quality, but if you have a goal, like the vision to help the poor children in the Kashmir Valley, for instance, that small coin can make a great difference to many lives.  The children in the Kashmir Valley live high up in the mountains at the border to Pakistan, an area that is always threatened by earthquakes, heavy rains and incredibly cold winters.  APC has long been helping to support the work of Rev. Yonathon Paljor in Kashmir in this dangerous and disputed border region between Pakistan and India.  Many of the poorest children have suffered the greatest consequences of both anti-Christian violence and the destruction caused by an earthquake in 2005, which killed 79,000 people.  Set yourself the following goal that achieves a lot with little: ”I want to save 20 cents daily for the project of the Reverend Yonathan Paljor in Srinagar in the Kashmir Valley”.  I will eat less sweets and drink tap water instead of bottled water.  You can make yourself a whole list of ideas how to save 20 cents daily.  You can bike to the grocery store instead of driving, which saves energy and is good exercise too.  There are no limits in using your imagination.  At the end of the year 2010, there will be EUR 36,00 in the box.  And if 100 people take on this goal, there will be € 3.600. available for our Mission Project for the children of the Kashmir Valley.  Pick up a box in the church narthex and start saving today!

5.  YOUTH NEWS.

Bored already?  Kelly is taking a hike up the Drachenfels on Saturday, July 17th, with any youth that would like to enjoy the great outdoors.  Interested?  Meet at the bottom of Drachenfels at 10:30 AM at the information center/cog-rail entrance.  If you would like to bike with Kelly to Drachenfels, meet at the church at 10:00.  Bring a packed lunch to eat on top of the hill.  Bring a little extra money as we may stop at the Milchhaeuschen for a snack.  We plan to be finished by 13:00 at Drachenfels and back to church via bike at 13:30.

Thanks for all your prayers, we have enjoyed our vacation in Egypt and look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Youth, keep these additional dates open for some summer fun:  July 21, 24, August 4, 7, 11, and 14.  Be sure to check your eMails.  Looking forward to spending more time with you all this summer!

6.  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP.    Instead of meeting in the church, this group now has “Summer Coffee Fellowship Meetings” at various members’ houses throughout July and August.  Next week’s meeting on Tuesday, July 13th, will be hosted by Susan Bamberg at the UN Cafeteria, Martin-Luther-King-Strasse, across from the church from 10 AM – 12 noon.  If you would like to come, please let Susan know by Monday at noon via eMail:  sbamberg@hotmail.com  or telephone: 0261-967-8920.    Newcomers are always welcome!

7.  SUPPORT GROUP FOR MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN:   Cordes Lindow has a wonderful idea about starting a Support Group for Mothers of Young Children.  It would meet at the church on a morning other than Tuesday.  We would like to know if there are members of APC who might be willing to help out with such a group.  It would require perhaps two people to help as co-leaders for the administration, and some others willing to help with coffee, babysitting, etc.  If you are interested in helping with the formation of this much-needed support group, please let Susan Bamberg know by email sbamberg@hotmail.com or telephone 0261-962-9617.   There will be a planning session in September.  Please pray about this and see if God calls you in this direction.

8.  CONCERT WITH WELSH MUSICIANS.   Tonight, July 9th, at 7:30 PM, the Anglican Chaplaincy is sponsoring another concert at the All Saints Church in Köln-Marienburg, Bonner Str. (corner of Lindenallee).  This concert will feature Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf (Cardiff) Choir and Jazz Band.  The choir will sing sacred music, and the Jazz Band will entertain with favorites like Nils Anderson’s “Crescent City Blues”.  Some of the music will be sung in Welsh.  The choir has won many national accolades, winning in the Urdd National Eiteddfod 3 times for mixed choirs under 19 years of age.  The Jazz Band has also been successful in current national competitions.  Entrance is free, but there will be a plate in the foyer for free-will contributions to help with expenses.

9.  PASTOR JOHN AWAY.  Pastor John, Sandra, Bailey and Sydney are leaving next Monday for a two week holiday, camping in the mountains in Spain.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers for safe travels, good health, and a holiday time full of refreshment and relaxation.  Kelly will be here during the time of Pastor John’s absence.  In case of emergency, please contact the church office for information.  The Carrick family will return to Bonn on July 26th.

This coming Sunday, July 4th, our service will be led by Pastor John.   He is preaching a series entitled  Highlights of Paul’s Letter to the Romans”.   The title of his sermon this Sunday is:   “The Gospel: The Work of Father, Son and Spirit”.   The scripture text is Romans 15:14-22.  The music at our blended service at 10:30 AM will be led by organist, Caroline Prozeller, a colleague of Hans-Peter who has played for us several times before, and also the Praise Team.  During this service, we will celebrate the baptism of Maxwell Meiburg.  We are also delighted to extend a welcome to Barbara Paver, Jill Meiburg’s sister and Max’s Godmother, who is a professional singer.  She will sing two spirituals, one during the baptism and the other at the offertory.  We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.   Please invite your neighbors and friends to worship and share Christ’s amazing love and blessings with us!
