APC Friday Flash from January 20th

Dear Friends,

Please note that this coming Sunday, there will be one service only at 10:30 AM, followed by our Congregational Meeting. Please continue reading the following paragraphs for details and other information about our upcoming programs and other church matters for this coming week.

1.  CONGREGATIONAL MEETING. This coming Sunday, January 22nd, there will be one Worship Service only at 10:30 AM, and our Congregational Meeting to vote on the proposed APC Consolidated Budget is scheduled to follow immediately at 12:00.  We will meet downstairs in the Fellowship Hall, where coffee and goodies will be available.  You will find the agenda as an attachment to this newsletter as well as an insert in Sunday’s church bulletin.  Everyone is welcome to attend, but only members of the APC are eligible to vote.

2.  MEN'S BREAKFAST. Awake, oh men! It's time for the next men's breakfast! The event will take place tomorrow, January 21st, at 8:00 AM at the church. Enjoy a great meal, a life-changing spiritual impulse and the opportunity to network with other men.  The men will begin a new study on Richard Foster’s book

“Celebration of Discipline”.

3.   A NOTE FROM CHANDLER SIMON. “Hello my name is Chandler. On January  8th, I spoke to the congregation about the Kinderklinik.  I have been raising money for them through my school project community and service.  My friend and I have been raising money by collecting bottles.  However my supervisor told me that the money would be split between other charities.  I heard this and immediately thought the Kinderklinik would not get as much as I had hoped.  That is why I ask you to please donate any money left over.  Please place it in the black and yellow box in the narthex by the entrance.  For more information come talk to me or grab a leaflet from the hall.  Thank you so much.  And I would really like to sincerely thank those who have already contributed!!!  At a later date, I look forward to sharing the results of the contributions with everyone!!!   Sincerely,  Chandler Simon“

Please meet Chandler this week after the service and consider donating for his project, if you haven’t done so already.  Thank you.

4. CHILDREN’S CHURCH.  PARENTS PLEASE NOTE that Children’s Church, when two services are scheduled, will only be available at the 11:15 service.  This Sunday, however, there is one service only, therefore Children’s Church will take place at 10.30 AM, and the topic will be Joshua and Caleb.  The children will learn that God is our protector and we can have courage to do what He wants us to do.

5.  2012 PLEDGE CARDS. Thank you to all who have already given their pledge cards for the coming year.  If you have not yet completed a card and you plan to make a pledge for the year OR even if you are simply planning to continue your giving at the same level, you can also send a short eMail to: foerderverein@apcbonn.de.  We are very thankful for your generous giving in 2011 - it has been a good year.  In 2012 there will be several increases to the budget and your gifts make it possible for us to continue the work of God's Kingdom here in Bonn.”

6.  YOUTH NEWS. Youth group is on schedule this week.

Next weekend, many of the youth will travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the 2012 Ski Retreat.  Keep them in your prayers as they ski the slopes, fellowship, have fun, and learn more about Jesus.

Please be praying that our youth would be bold in calling upon God because He hears us (Psalm 17.6).

7.  KELLY'S KORNER. Thanks for the many prayers for the 30+ Hour Famine for the Kenya Trippers.  We enjoyed a tasty Kenyan meal provided by some of our gracious church members on Sunday afternoon.  We don't have final numbers, but at least 1000 Euros has been pledged through the Famine fundraising!  That is great news.  Thank You.

Do mark your calendars for the Quiz Night on February 10th.  We desire for the whole church family, our neighbors, friends, and colleagues to come and support the trip through having a fantastically fun evening testing our brains against one another for a great cause.  Look for a flyer this weekend.

Items are also needed for the upcoming Silent Auction.  Have any ideas?  Contact Kelly ASAP.

8.  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP (IWCF). This group meets every Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM to 12:00 in the Fellowship Hall of the church.  Beginning next Tuesday, their topic will be “Christian Characters”.  Newcomers are always welcome to attend.  If you have questions, please contact Birgit Gray at 0228-3862745.

9.  ALTAR FLOWERS CHART. There is a new Flower Chart in the APC Office for all the Sundays in 2012.  22 dates are still available for you to select a special Sunday to donate Altar flowers.  The cost of an arrangement is Euro 15.50.  Just put your name on the chart and fill in one of the forms (in the brown envelope below the chart) with your name and message, and return it to Margot or Ina in the office a week prior to the date of your donation.

10. PLAYGROUP WITH A PURPOSE. Every Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 11:30, we meet in the Nursery Room. Mothers share some coffee and discuss biblical topics related to motherhood while small children play at their feet.  Contact for this group is Cordes Lindow, whose eMail address is: cordeslindow@yahoo.com.

11.  BENEFIT CONCERT FOR STIMSON MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Come and enjoy good music while supporting our church building at the same time!  Join us next Saturday, January 28th, at 7:30 PM for an evening of jazz, soul, singer and songwriter and international songs by Anke Held and her band from Switzerland.  This is the unique opportunity to hear the songs from a new CD release right before it’s start! Admission is free, donations welcome.

This coming Sunday, January 22nd, our one 10:30 AM service will be led by Pastor John.  Pastor Kelly will be preaching and the title of his sermon is  “Spiritual Disciplines: Living Out Loud”.   The Scripture passage is Mark 2:13-17.  The Praise Band will lead the music at this Contemporary Service.  In addition, there will be a special musical treat during this service.  Oliver Schwichtenberg, an 11 year old student at the Bonn Music School, will join us to play during the Offertory.  Oli plays the bassoon (Fagott) and is in Class 6C at the Clara-Fey-Gymnasium here in Bad Godesberg.  Please invite your neighbors and friends to worship with us and share Christ’s amazing love and blessings with us!

If you do not wish to receive this information any more, please send us a short note and we’ll remove your name and address from our mailing list.
