Job Posting - Senior Pastor

The American Protestant Church (APC) in Bonn, Germany, an international, interdenominational, Protestant church located in the heart of Europe, is searching for a Senior Pastor from August 1, 2022 for an initial three-year contract, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

With approximately 230 congregational members and friends from over 35 nations, the APC strives to call the English-speaking community of Bonn to Christ and Christlikeness by serving its needs.

Since the APC was founded in 1952, our multicultural congregation has enjoyed continued spiritual growth under the leadership of able and devoted pastors. Besides weekly Sunday morning worship services, the APC offers a variety of ministries and growth opportunities, including Life Groups for Bible study and prayer, weekly youth and children’s activities, fellowship events, mission trips, and an annual, all-church retreat.

Profile of Desired Pastoral Characteristics:

A passionate love for Jesus Christ and a desire to share it inside and outside the church.

  • Demonstrated pastoral ministry experience in a multi-cultural church.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Preach the Word of God faithfully and passionately with sermons that inspire and encourage spiritual growth in the church’s diverse congregation.
  • Design and lead worship services, including the celebration of communion, baptism, infant dedication, and commissionings, as well as officiate at weddings, memorial services, and other special liturgies.
  • Provide spiritual leadership for the congregation and staff members (Youth Director, Children’s Ministry Assistant, Office Manager, Office Assistant , and Videographer ) in all ministry and administrative matters.
  • Promote the vitality of APC’s various ministries in collaboration with the Church Council, its Executive Team, and committees.
  • Provide compassionate pastoral care and counselling for individuals and families of the congregation and the community.
  • Coordinate adult education, Life Groups, and spiritual growth opportunities in collaboration with the Council member for Life Groups.
  • Serve as a primary source of ministry communication with the congregation to foster deepened discipleship, relational connections, and church unity.
  • Welcome visitors and engage with people in the local community to encourage congregational participation, while joyfully sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Embrace opportunities for ecumenical relationships with local churches, as well as actively participate in the events of the Association of International Churches in Europe and the Middle East (AICEME).
  • Enthusiastically embody the role of a visionary leader who will be a hope-filled catalyst to galvanize congregational participation in worship, ministry, and fellowship in the complex context of the global pandemic.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Master of Divinity degree, or its educational equivalent, from an accredited seminary.
  • Ordained Pastor in an internationally/ecumenically recognized Protestant denomination.
  • Native English speaker or a native English language level of proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 10 years of full-time, pastoral ministry experience.
  • At least 5 years of full-time, ordained ministry experience as a senior pastor or solo pastor.
