Baptism

The journey of faith begins with baptism, opening the door to a life of spiritual growth and connection.

Outlining the difference

Although many people see no real difference between the words that is used – ‘Dedication’, ‘Infant baptism’, or ‘ Adult Baptism’ the Church understands these in different ways. To help you choose the option most appropriate for your child, we outline the difference below. At APC we minister all three in celebrating the life of your child at worship.

Dedication of a child

Dedication of a child is for parents who believe that baptism is for believing adults and should be by full immersion. Thus, baptism should only be given when their child has grown to that stage when they can profess their own personal faith.

Infant Baptism

Infant Baptism, also known to some as ‘Christening’, is when baptism symbolises our child’s adoption into the household of God-the Church. When we ask for this kind of ceremony, we intent to raise our children to answer and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by their own understanding and conviction.

Adult Baptism

could be seen as the expected response from those who once have been dedicated to the Lord by believing parents and now are able to confirm their faith personally.
