We are seeking a Christ-centered, Spirit-led Senior Pastor with a heart for revival and discipleship of God’s people.

The American Protestant Church (APC) in Bonn, Germany is seeking a Senior Pastor to begin on 1 September 2027. The appointment will initially be for a three-year contract with the possibility of extension.

APC is an international, multi-denominational Protestant church located in Bonn, Germany, in the heart of Europe. With approximately 170 members representing more than 30 nations, the APC seeks to serve the English-speaking community of Bonn and lead people into a growing relationship with Christ Jesus and Christ-like living.

 

Founded in 1952, the congregation has enjoyed continued spiritual growth through the ministry of devoted pastors and lay leaders. Our congregation brings together people from a wide range of cultural, professional, denominational, and life-stage backgrounds, including families, students, international workers, diplomats,
and long-term residents of the Bonn area.

 

Alongside weekly Sunday morning worship service, the APC offers a variety of programs and activities such as Bible studies, homegroups, weekly youth and children’s ministries, outreach events, service initiatives, mission trips and an annual retreat.

We are seeking a Christ-centered, Spirit-led Senior Pastor with a heart for revival and discipleship of God’s people. The successful candidate will be able to preach the Gospel faithfully, provide pastoral leadership in a multicultural setting, strengthen the spiritual life of the congregation, and equip members for active ministry and witness.

Job Description

The Senior Pastor will provide spiritual, pastoral, and organizational leadership for APC, working closely with the Church Council, church leaders, staff, and congregation. Key roles and responsibilities include:
  • Preach the Word of God faithfully and passionately with sermons that inspire and encourage spiritual growth in the church’s diverse congregation.
  • Design and conduct the worship services, administer baptism, dedication ceremonies and holy communion for members and friends of the congregation in accordance with APC’s tradition.
  • Cultivate a church culture marked by prayer, worship, spiritual renewal, discipleship, holiness, compassion, and mission.
  • Provide able and consistent leadership for the congregation and two staff members, Director of Next Generation and Office Secretary, in spiritual, managerial and administrative matters.
  • Lead and equip ministry leaders, volunteers, home-group leaders, youth and children’s workers, and other members for effective service. Enhance and implement the various ministry and service areas of the APC in conjunction with the Church Council and respective committees.
  • Provide pastoral care through counselling, visitation, prayer, encouragement, weddings, funerals, and support during crises as need arises.
  • Promote the vitality of APC’s various ministries in collaboration with the Church Council, its Executive Team, and committees
  • Welcome visitors and engage with people in the local community to encourage congregational participation, while joyfully sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Encourage unity across cultures, nationalities, and denominational backgrounds.
  • Contribute to regular adult education programs such as a mid-week Bible study group, Sunday school class and homegroup studies, etc.
  • Support and maintain regular contact with the children and youth ministries, women’s ministries and homegroups.
  • Collaborate with the Church Council in setting priorities, vision, annual plans, and ministry goals.
  • Reach out to people within the local community and the APC congregation, encouraging worship service attendance and pursuit of the Christian faith.
  • Ensure that APC remains a welcoming spiritual home for English-speaking people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Embrace opportunities for ecumenical relationships with local churches, as well as actively participate in the events of the Association of International Churches in Europe and the Middle East (AICEME).
  • Provide guidance and active management of the church’s overall operations and financial health
  • Willingness to serve within the church outside of pastoral duties

  • Significant pastoral ministry experience, preferably including leadership of a diverse or international congregation.
  • A passion for seeing people come to faith, grow as disciples, and live empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Conflict resolution and team building skills
  • The ability to preach biblically grounded, Christ-centered sermons that speak to people from different cultures and stages of faith.
  • Cultural intelligence, emotional maturity, and the ability to unite people from different national, ethnic, and denominational backgrounds.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with lay leadership while providing clear spiritual direction.

Qualifications concerning education and work-experience are

  • A minimum of a Master of Divinity or equivalent educational qualifications from a recognized seminary
  • Ordination within a recognized Protestant denomination
  • Preferably 5 years of relevant work experience in a pastoral position
  • Native-speaker of the English language or native-like proficiency
